Fishing
Some of the world's best big game fishing is only a short boat trip away. Not only is there a high chance of catching the big one but at a very competitive rate. Spear fishing and salt water fly fishing are also gaining in popularity here.
Tonga is blessed with world class fishing – Blue Marlin (Pacific), Black Marlin and Striped Marlin, Sailfish (Pacific), Skipjack Tuna, Yellow Fin and pelagic species such as Mahimahi, Tuna, Wahoo (Valu Louniu) and a host of reef species including Dog Tooth Tuna (valu Tonga) and Giant Trevally (GT).
Other fish include; Kawa Kawa (Mackeral Tuna), Baracuda (‘Ono), Coral Trout, Dolphin Fish, Grouper, Job Fish (utu), Long Tom (haku), Spanish Mackeral, Ranbow Runner, Roundtail Seabream (mu), Hammerhead Shark, Mako Shark, Oceanic Whitetip, Shortbill Spearfish, Bluefin Trevally (lupo), Big Eye Tuna, Snapper Emporer, Emporer Spangled (koango), Queenfish.
Tonga holds the following of IGFA world records:
1, Men’s 24kg line class for a 94kg Sailfish
2. Small Fry - Sailfish 55kg
3. Women’s 15kg line class for a 38.4kg GT

Whale Watching and Fishing Charter Services with a difference
At Tongan Expeditions we aim to provide you with a complete Vava'u Fishing and Whale Watching Experience.
Vava'u is known for its Humpback whales in the whale season starting from mid-to-late July until late October each year, our experienced local skippers and guides will give you an experience you will never forget as you view these magnificent creatures up close and you will even get the chance to swim with the whales.
Fishing in Vava'u is world class and truly an anglers 'El Dorado'. We have set many local Vava’u sports fishing Club (VSFC) plus National Tongan records (TIGFA) time and again with expert local skipper Lolesio Lui.
There is something for anglers or all ages and experience, whether your preference is deep sea game fishing for billfish, tuna, mahimahi or wahoo or bottom fishing for the numerous reef species that inhabit the waters of Vava’u. You might like to try your hand at casting poppers into the reefs in attempt to do battle with the giant trevally that can burst out onto your hook and give you a battle you will not forget in a hurry

We specialise in GT Fishing - physically challenging either land or boat based - your call!
Lupo is a Boston Whaler, Montauk 17, which is excellent for 2 anglers, one forward and one aft. It is powered by a 2009 Yamaha 60 HP 4-stroke for quiet cruising the reef edges.
You will need to bring your own equipment for these fish as I would not be able to maintain a large enough stock of lures or poles to keep up with these fish. They are hard on the equipment!
Warning: This kind of fishing can be physically challenging, not to mention as just getting to some of the land based remote locations. Please be sure to ask all possible questions before booking GT fishing trips, especially land based ones.

"Reel Addiction" and "Reel Connection" are both twin engine, custom built
sportfishers, in full survey and fully game rigged with Shimano Tackle 6kg
to 60kg - chair or standup combinations.
2008 Season... Capt. Steve and his crew achieved Tonga's Top Charter Boat
status again, this being for the 8th consecutive year with the most
billfish caught/tagged.
The 'Reel Addiction team' also won the 2008 Tonga
International Billfish Tournament, 'runner up' in the NZ Fishing News
Tournament and our anglers posted 15 of the 27 New Club Records and 9 of
the 15 New National Records for 2008.
Reel Addiction now accounts for 87
Club/National Records & 27 "All Tackle Records", a new record in Tonga's
game fishing history. Previous catches include 4 Billfish Gland Slams and
Tonga's first Blue Marlin "Grander" which was tagged in the interest of
conservation.
