New Income Tax System
Mr Praveen Reddy, Inland Revenue Debuty Commissioner and Kolo Tonga from Inland Department of Nukuálofa accompany with Sione Faleafa of treasury Department, Kelemete Vahe from Customs Department of Nukualofa held a meeting with employers and other tax payers, business people of Vavaú at Puataukanave Hotel on Wednesday 30th January informing new income tax system.
Income Tax, customs and excise legislation to be become effective on 1st February 2008.
The following legislations were passed by the Legislative Assembly last year and have received Royal Assent but yet to be proclaimed effective until Regulations, rates and tariff relating thereto have been completed, approved and gazzetted:
1. Income Tax Act 2007
2. Customs and Excise Management Act 2007
3. Customs Act 2007
4. Excise Tax Act 2007
5. Customs and Excise (Repeal) Act 2007
6. Consumption Tax (Amendment) Act 2007
The following regulations and orders in Council relating thereto have been approved and gazetted:
1. Income Tax 2008
2. Income Tax Rates Order-in-Council 2008
3. Customs and Excise Management Regulations 2008
4. Customs Regulations 2008
5. Excise Tax Regulations 2008
6. Customs and Excise Order-in Council 2008
7. Excise Tax Rates Order in Council 2008
8. Customs Tariff Order-in-Council 2008
9. Revenue services (Amendment) Regulations 2008.
The above legislations will be declared by proclamation in the Government Gazette effective as from 1st February and will also bring into effect the Regulations and Orders-in-Council relating thereto. It will also repeal the exsisting legislations. Regulation and Orders-in-Council, some immediately on the effective date and others gradually until the implementation of the new legislations, regulations and rates are completed.
The legislations are of considerable importance to the business community, wage income earners and the economy of the Kingdom. These are the continuation of the tax reform which become in 2002.
The Revenue Services Department of the Ministry of Finance will be conducting briefings to interested stakeholders starting on Monday 28th, January 2008 and will continue after the effective date.
