Latest News from Vava'u Island Group, Tonga

Niuatoputapu, the northern most Island group in Tonga, was affected badly by the Tsunami generated by the Earthquake off Samoa on September 30. The waves were generated by an 8.3 magnitude earthquake.
A Tongan Patrol boat was dispatched and a French frigate was also sent to provide aid.
Yachties, local businesses and expats based in Vava'u donated over 700kg of food, clothin and 240 litres of fuel. 600kg was flown to the island by Chathams Pacific who donated the plane. A further 100kg of Food and clothing and the 240litre of fuel was sailed up on SV Kudana.
A number of yachts are in the area assisting with distribution of the aid and rebuilding.
